THE IMPORTANCE OF STYLE IN WRITING.
In my last post, I talked about writing styles and the four general types every writer should know.
Today, however, I’ll be talking about how crucial style is to writing.
To know how important style is, it is best to get a feel for what writing style is all about. It’s about how the writer presents words to the readers, how the writer chooses to tell their tale, the writer’s grasp of the language.
Allow me to explain further…
WHICH IS MORE IMPORTANT: WHAT IS SAID OR HOW IT IS SAID?
Imagine…💭💭
That you were speaking with someone and you’re about to end the conversation.
If you end with “Enjoy your next 24 hours”, you’ll most likely get a very different response than if you’d simply said; “Have a nice day.”
Both sentences have roughly the same meaning but the former sounds threatening while the latter sounds friendly.
Do you see, now, where I’m going with this?
Let’s take a look at another analogy.
Writing styles are like the clothes that a text puts on. Just as we can dress a person in several clothes, we can dress a single message in different writing styles.
ON A FINAL NOTE…
A writer’s style is important because it establishes the mood, image, tone, and meaning in a text.
It influences how we interpret the facts that are presented in a piece of writing.
Without style, a piece of writing can become so boring that it totally puts the reader off. Or it may become inarticulate or incoherent.
